Good bye Uncle Anthony

We had a great Christmas Eve.  I had spent too much on gifts.  My mom and I cooked all day (although I feel like she did most of the cooking).  We made 5 pies:  chocolate cream, coconut meringue, lemon meringue, pecan and pecan/coconut.  We had a ham provided by Dee-Dee with dressing, cranberries, gravy, green bean casserole, broccoli cheese casserole, and rolls.  Jinks and Gladys came over as did my Grandma.  Carolyn and her boyfriend Damien came over.  After Jinks, Gladys and my Grandmother left, we let Carolyn open her gifts.  She got some great gifts.  Joey and I gave her six car payments and $100 cash.  My mom gave her $100 toward her car.  Bibs gave her a watch and a few other gifts.  Carolyn brought gifts this year for me, Bibs and Joey.  It was nice.

Then we moved on to our gifts.  After we had finished opening everything, we got a call and text from Joey's family.  Uncle Anthony had died suddenly of a heart attack.  He was at his home with Marilyn, Anthony Jr and Lori, Ashleigh, Alexandra, Eric and Braeden, and Tony and Jennifer.  He was showing them how to peel crabs and he went into the kitchen and had a massive heart attack.  I spent the next hour looking at airfares to see if it would be more cost effective for just Joey to fly in since Bibs would already be there.  The flights were so costly that it made more sense for he and I to just drive.

Christmas morning, Joey had to leave for work.  My mom was making breakfast and she and I put together my new office chair that Joey gave me for Christmas.  Bibianna came into the living room with tears in her eyes and handed me her telephone.  She had a message from American Airlines.  Her flight from DFW to LFT had been cancelled due to weather.  So, that settled it.  We were all driving to Louisiana.  We left at 6:00 AM Wednesday morning and drove to Staci's house.  On Friday we left for New Orleans and went to the wake.  Saturday was the funeral and then a reception at Mom and Pops house.  The weather was cold and windy.  The service was nice although the priest was very young and obviously hasn't had much experience with funerals.  We drove back to Lafayette last night and then left for home today at 7:00 AM.  Made it home about 7:00 PM.

The house is a mess and it looks like somebody abducted our family during the Christmas celebration, but I only have to work tomorrow and then I have the rest of the week off.  Joey also drove the whole way home today and I slept for about 90% of the ride.  I sure am going to miss Uncle Anthony and I am heart broken for his daughter Marilyn.  She will be fine because she is a strong woman, but my heart is still broken for her loss.  It will be a hard time for her learning to live alone.
